North Bay Business Journal’s 2026 Influential Women Award
Michelle Sawyer is a recipient of the North Bay Business Journal’s 2026 Influential Women award. Michelle Sawyer, a co-founder of the nonprofit Micah’s Hugs, did not set out to become an advocate. The organization emerged from personal tragedy: the death of her stepson from fentanyl poisoning. In the years since, it has distributed roughly 40,000 doses of Narcan and expanded fentanyl education programs in schools across Northern California. “In the face of unimaginable grief, Michelle made the courageous decision to turn pain into purpose,” said Marissa Pendleton, who manages marketing and social media for Micah’s Hugs.
