North Bay Business Journal’s 2026 Influential Women Award
Michelle Sawyer is a recipient of the North Bay Business Journal’s 2026 Influential Women award.
Michelle Sawyer, a co-founder of the nonprofit Micah’s Hugs, did not set out to become an advocate. The organization emerged from personal tragedy: the death of her stepson from fentanyl poisoning. In the years since, it has distributed roughly 40,000 doses of Narcan and expanded fentanyl education programs in schools across Northern California.

Guinness Book World Record Holder
Guinness World Records: The largest opioid overdose reversal training is 1,167 and was achieved by Micah’s Hugs, with the support of Analy High School, in Sebastopol, California, USA, on October 17, 2025.
